Internships in Documentary Film making

The Doc Tank, an award-winning partnership currently involved with several different projects, seeks interns to assist with all aspects of the company work.  Interns will have an opportunity to work closely with a busy, friendly, disorganized, and opinionated team of filmmakers, with 18 years each of experience in the animation, mixed media, documentary film and TV world.

Intern Responsibilities include:

• office chores & errands & management (phones, runs, accounting)

• logging & dubbing tapes

• prepping & organizing material for editing

• assisting editor when necessary

• assisting on local shoots when possible

• researching and reporting stories

• researching and writing funding requests

• Final Cut Pro technical support (in-house system)

The best candidate would be interested in documentary, willing to do tasks in exchange for learning, able to take charge and help, confident enough to ask questions, and tactful enough to know when not to.

Other pluses are: intelligence, humour, energy; experience in film, journalism, research or office work; a good phone manner; driver’s license; camera skills; familiarity with the city; writing skills; a laptop; being able to work alone sometimes; interest in politics, writing, feminism, the arts, dogs, and comedy.

The minimum time commitment is 16 hours a week, during weekday hours, for three months. More hours and for a longer period is preferable.

There is no pay, although the position could lead to a paying job, and to occasional freelance income sooner.  Interns have unlimited opportunities to learn in all skill areas, to become familiar with the documentary community, and to develop personal taste in the medium.

To apply, please fax or email a note and/or resume, and let us know if there are particular areas you want to work in.
